2027 Tax Filing: Preparing e-Invoices for YA 2026 Relief

2027 Tax Filing: Preparing e-Invoices for YA 2026 Relief

Based on Bryan Cheong’s original video. Reviewed 28 September 2026.

LHDN encourages individuals to request e-Invoices for expenses related to personal tax relief, supporting its proposed prefilled relief information for Year of Assessment 2026. Prepare your records during 2026 so they are ready when you file the relevant return in 2027.

Bryan’s video highlights this preparation. One distinction matters: LHDN’s 9 May 2026 announcement describes encouragement and a pilot initiative. It does not, by itself, state that every relief claim without an e-Invoice will be rejected.

What did LHDN announce?

The announcement links e-Invoice transaction data with a pilot for prefilled personal-relief information. It mentions possible categories such as computers or smartphones, lifestyle spending, insurance and childcare fees, subject to the applicable relief rules.

Prefilled information can help organise a return, but it is not a guarantee that every purchase qualifies. Check the correct assessment year, category, qualifying conditions and limits before claiming.

What information should you give the seller?

The video explains that a buyer-specific e-Invoice needs accurate identifying information. Prepare your identification number or Tax Identification Number (TIN), and provide the other details requested through the seller’s proper invoicing process. Review the buyer information before the document is submitted.

Use your own details for your purchase. Do not assume a document in someone else’s name can support your claim, or that the same expense may be claimed more than once.

A practical record-keeping routine

  1. Request the e-Invoice when making a relevant purchase, within the seller’s request period.
  2. Check the buyer name, date, description and amount.
  3. Save the e-Invoice together with proof of payment and any other evidence explaining the expense.
  4. Group documents by assessment year and potential relief category.
  5. At filing time, compare any prefilled information with your records and the applicable return guidance.

Can I discard ordinary receipts?

Do not discard supporting records merely because an e-Invoice is available. The invoice identifies the transaction; payment records and other documents can help explain what was purchased and why it meets a claimed category.

Does a validated e-Invoice guarantee tax relief?

No. Validation and relief eligibility are different questions. A genuine, correctly documented purchase still needs to satisfy the conditions for the particular relief claimed.

What should I check before filing in 2027?

Use LHDN’s final YA 2026 return guidance and any subsequent updates. The video is an early preparation discussion, not a substitute for those filing instructions. If a purchase or claimant arrangement is unclear, resolve it with LHDN or your tax adviser before submitting the claim.
