Lindung 24 Jam FAQ: 10 Payroll Questions Explained

Lindung 24 Jam FAQ: 10 Payroll Questions Explained

Based on Bryan Cheong’s original video. Reviewed 28 September 2026.

Lindung 24 Jam is voluntary for local employees and remains mandatory for foreign employees within the applicable coverage rules. For payroll teams, the practical task is to confirm each employee’s recorded status and apply the correct contribution treatment.

This article follows the ten questions in Bryan’s July 2026 video. The initial 31 August 2026 deadline discussed in that recording has passed. Use the historical explanation together with the current PERKESO portal and guidance when handling a live case.

1. Is participation compulsory or voluntary?

The video explains the change announced on 8 July 2026 for local employees. PERKESO’s current scheme page confirms the distinction between voluntary local participation and mandatory foreign-worker participation. Do not apply one setting to every employee without checking their category.

2. How did a local employee opt out?

Bryan describes registering the decision through the Lindung portal and giving the resulting document to HR. A verbal instruction alone is not the same as a recorded portal decision. Keep the acknowledgement with the employee’s payroll record.

3. Can someone join and later simply stop contributing?

The video cautions against assuming that joining can be reversed at any time. PERKESO’s current opt-out-to-opt-in form likewise states that participation continues once the employee joins. Confirm an exceptional case with PERKESO before changing the payroll setting.

4. Does the July change automatically refund June contributions?

No automatic refund should be assumed. Bryan explains that June belonged to the earlier mandatory implementation period. Distinguish a policy-change question from a duplicate payment or calculation error, which requires its own documented correction enquiry.

5. What if no decision was recorded by 31 August 2026?

The video describes automatic participation where the initial opt-out declaration was not made by that date. Because the deadline has now passed, check the employee’s actual portal status and seek PERKESO’s instructions if the record is disputed. Do not treat this article as a new opt-out window.

6. What about a newly hired local employee?

Bryan discusses a 30-day decision period for new employees under the guidance reviewed in July. Make participation status part of onboarding: confirm the applicable current procedure, the start date and any earlier participation, then retain the supporting acknowledgement.

7. Does a grace period mean an employer can ignore the scheme?

No. The video discusses a transitional grace period and questions how it interacts with enforcement. Treat that as a point requiring the relevant dated circular, rather than a blanket promise that every late payment or error is exempt from consequences.

8. What should the employer do?

Maintain participation records, calculate the applicable deduction, reconcile the payroll total with the contribution file and arrange submission and payment. Employee-funded contributions still require an employer process; they do not mean the employer has no administrative responsibility.

9. Does it cover accidents outside Malaysia?

PERKESO lists accidents outside Malaysia among the exclusions for this scheme. Other exclusions and eligibility conditions also apply, so “24 hours” should not be read as covering every accident or illness anywhere.

10. How are claims handled now?

The video says the online claim function was not yet available when recorded. PERKESO’s current scheme page now links to the LINDUNG Faedah portal and claim tutorials. Use those current instructions or contact PERKESO for the documents required in the particular case.

Payroll checklist

  1. Confirm employee category and recorded participation.
  2. Retain declarations and acknowledgements.
  3. Check the contribution month and applicable table.
  4. Reconcile payslips, submission file and payment.
  5. Record the reason and approval for any correction.
